Plant Based Ground Beef Puff Pastries

Cooking Time: 40 minutes   |  Yields:  24 bites

Ingredients you’ll need:
  • 1 Package of Zoglo’s Incredible™ Ground
  • 1 Small Onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 Cloves of Garlic (finely chopped)
  • 1 Tablespoon of Paprika
  • 1 Teaspoon of Chili Powder
  • ½ Teaspoon of Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 Teaspoon of Dry Thyme
  • 2 Tablespoons of Tomato Paste
  • 2 Tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 Sheet of Puff Pastry (10 inches x 10 inches) (ensure it’s thawed and ready to use!)
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Tablespoon of Poppy Seeds
  • 1 Tablespoon of Sesame Seeds

Step 1:  Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium heat

Step 2:  Add onion and garlic to the pan with a pinch of salt and pepper

Step 3:  Cook for a minute then add the Zoglo’s Incredible™ Ground and continue to cook for 5 minutes (be sure to stir occasionally!) 

Step 4:  Add the paprika, chili powder, cayenne pepper and thyme to the pan (gently stir in the spices!)

Step 5:  Add the tomato paste and cook for 2-3 minutes while incorporating all the ingredients. When done, set aside to cool

Step 6:  Beat egg in a small bowl with a teaspoon of water to create an egg wash. When done, set this aside 

Step 7:  Roll out puff pastry. Cut into three (3) even strips. Place ⅓ of the ground mixture across the centre of each puff pastry strip

Step 8:  Brush one side of the puff pastry with egg wash then roll into a log. Cut each log into eight (8) bite-sized pieces

Step 9:  Place puff pastry bites onto a lined baking sheet. Brush each bite with egg wash and sprinkle with poppy and sesame seeds

Step 10:   Bake in the centre of the oven until golden brown (about 10-14 minutes!)


Pro-Tip:  To make these bites vegan friendly, use vegan puff pastry and substitute the egg wash with 2 tablespoons of almond milk mixed with 1 teaspoon of maple syrup!
