Dear Zoglo’s fam,
We hope this letter finds you well!
Earth month is finally here folks and this time, we’re doing things a little differently.
We’re talking about reducing your carbon footprint, putting less waste into our landfills and eating green(er)!
That’s why we’ve put together a list of the top 7 things that you absolutely MUST try this Earth month!
#1 - Ride Your Bike
Not too sure how you can reduce your carbon footprint? We recommend opting in the urban city bike commute!
If you’re in the 6ixx, Bike Share Toronto has bikes available at almost every popular street and intersection!
Using cash or card, you can quickly rent these bikes for as short a time or as long a time as you need! (They even have day passes!)
Get going people! Those blue skies and great times are just around the corner.
#2 - Reuse Those Bags
Make use of those reusable bags folks! It’s a good start in getting rid of the pesky plastics in our landfills.
Besides, reusable bags are way more durable than plastic bags (there are very few things in this world that are more frustrating than your grocery bag ripping mid-carry).
Don’t have those reusable canvas or cloth bags at your disposal? That’s okay!
Hold on to any plastic bags you may have used during your last grocery run and use them again!
(If you’re really in a pinch, we dare you to hold everything in your hand like Chef Pino did here!)
#3 - Use Your Refillable Bottle
Did you know that the average Canadian uses around 329 litres of water a day? (According to studies done by McGill University, 10% of that is dedicated to drinking and preparing meals!)
Unfortunately, with our plastic bottle consumption just as high as our water consumption, 80 percent of our plastic water bottles end up in landfills.
One way that we can effectively lower this number is by investing in reusable water bottles!
Not only do these bottles keep the water at your preferred temperature (if you get the metal ones) but they help you save money as well!
Long gone are they days where we buy (plastic) bottles of water! The Earth would be proud.
#4 - Plant Something
Planting is one of the best ways you can help the planet!
What’s more is that April is the best time to start your mini sustainable farm! (You know how the old saying goes…April showers bring May flowers!)
So, propagate that Monstera, grow that celery, buy that cactus.
Plant, Plant, Plant!
#5 - Cleaner Cleaning Solutions
Instead of using the traditional (yet harmful) cabinet cleaning solutions, why not opt for making some eco-friendly solutions at home!
CleaningPros has a pretty extensive list of eco-friendly cleaning alternatives for your home!
Don’t have the time to make them? That’s okay!
Canada’s very own, Green and Frugal, boasts of a wide array of affordable, low waste and eco-friendly products that’s made just for you.
Celebrating Earth month has never been easier!
#6 - Support Local
The next activity we highly recommend for Earth Month is shopping at your local farmers’ market!
Buying local fresh fruit and vegetables can…
- Help support your local farmers
- Be a lot cheaper than buying fruits and vegetables at the grocery store
- Help reduce emission levels in the atmosphere (you’ll be saving those fruits and veggies a trip to the grocery after all!)
Who knows, you may have the opportunity to snag a fruit or vegetable you never ate before!
#7 - Try a Plant-Based Dish
Now you know we had to leave the best for last.
What better way to support your fave plant-based meat company AND celebrate Earth month?
Trying out one of our many recipes not only helps our planet but it can inspire you to incorporate more plant based meals in your diet!
How’s that for going green?
Now remember folks, it doesn’t need to be Earth month for you to try these 7 activities.
Saving the planet takes more than a month of consistent effort, it takes changes in our daily habits as well!
